The best time for a wedding in most of India is October to March, when it is dry and warm. December to February is peak season and costs the most. Avoid the monsoon (roughly June to September) for outdoor weddings, and April to June in Rajasthan, when days are often above 40 °C.

What about the monsoon?

The monsoon brings heavy rain to most of India from about June to September, arriving in Kerala first. It is beautiful, green and quiet, and venues are cheaper, but outdoor ceremonies become a gamble. If you love the monsoon, choose an indoor or covered venue and embrace the rain.

Are some dates auspicious?

For Hindu families, yes: wedding dates are often chosen from the calendar, and popular muhurtham dates book up first. In Kerala many Hindu families avoid the month of Karkidakam (mid-July to mid-August). Christian families avoid Lent, and Muslim families avoid Ramadan. Our muhurtham finder shows the traditional dates for any year.

Which months are the best value?

October, early November and March: the weather is good, and rates are lower than in peak season.
