An Udaipur wedding means a lake palace or a palace resort in the Aravalli hills, with guests arriving by boat and a baraat through the old city. The season runs from October to March. For 150 guests over three days, expect roughly ₹66.8 lakh–₹1.53 crore (about US$70,000–160,000); the grandest palaces cost several times more.

Udaipur, the City of Lakes, is India’s most famous wedding destination: white palaces rising out of Lake Pichola, rooftop restaurants over the water and the Aravalli hills all around.

Weddings here lean into the setting. Guests cross the lake by boat, the sangeet happens in a courtyard lit by lanterns, and Rajasthani folk musicians play as the sun drops behind the hills.

Ceremonies, customs and local rules

Ceremonies

  • Hindu weddings with a baraat and pheras are the tradition here; fusion and civil-style ceremonies are common at palace hotels.
  • Palaces often require a minimum room block, sometimes the whole property, on wedding dates.
  • We do not use elephants in processions; a vintage car or a decorated horse with welfare checks are the alternatives.

Rules and permissions

  • Heritage venues have strict rules on décor fixings, fire and sound; we plan to them from the first site visit.
  • Outdoor amplified music normally ends at 10 pm.
  • Palace dates for November to February sell out 12–18 months ahead.
